This keeps it securely on the horse's back while still providing sufficient freedom of movement to offer insects no attack surface. Should a fly, mosquito, or similar still get under thefly sheet, it has no possibility of settling.

Fly sheet for horses– What to consider?
To ensure the best possible protection, a fly sheet for horses must always be completely intact. Even the smallest damage should not be ignored, as even a tiny hole could provide an escape route for insects. This applies particularly toriding fly sheets and fly sheets with neck parts, where potential weak points are less obvious.
In addition to thefly sheet, fly gels or fly sprays can be used to provide additional protection for the horse. These products have an insect-repelling effect due to special fragrances. Special horse feed against insects works similarly, giving the horse a harmless smell through its nutrients that repels flies and at the same time reduces inflammatory reactions after bites.
