Mane Bands & Braiding Accessories – for the perfect competition look

Are you about to start your competition and want your horse's mane to be perfectly in place? Mane bands are your most important helper – whether classic braids or securely sewn in. Here you will find everything you need for braiding and sewing: colorful bands, robust threads, practical braiding aids, and the right tools.

Mane bands in many colors – suitable for every horse

Black, brown, white, or rather bright in club colors? The selection of mane bands is huge – and for good reason. For dressage tests, the subtle option in mane color is usually preferred, while for show jumping, colorful bands matching the saddle pad are often chosen. It's important that the bands sit securely without breaking the mane hair. This is exactly what we pay attention to when selecting our products.

In our assortment, you will find mane bands from Effol, HKM, Waldhausen, Grooming Deluxe, HES-Tec, Animalonand other top brands – from inexpensive bulk packs to premium options for the grand entrance.

Braiding or sewing – which suits you?

Both techniques have their merits. Braiding with mane bands is quick, and you can remove the braids in a few minutes after the competition. For sewing, you need braiding thread in a matching color and a braiding needle – but the braids will hold much longer and look particularly neat. Especially in dressage, the sewn-in result is often the more elegant choice.

If you are not yet very experienced, a braiding aidis worthwhile. These small helpers make dividing the mane and securing the braids much easier – even after a long competition day, when your fingers get tired.

What you need for the perfect competition styling

  • Mane bandsin a suitable color and sufficient quantity (it's better to pack a few extra)
  • Braiding thread or buttonhole threadfor permanent sewing
  • Braiding needle or crochet hookfor clean results
  • Mane combfor even sectioning of the strands
  • Mane sprayfor better hold and shiny hair

Speaking of care: A well-groomed mane is much easier to braid. Feel free to check out our mane brushesand care products– there you will find everything that keeps your mane smooth and manageable.

Frequently asked questions about mane bands and braiding

How many mane bands do I need for a competition?

For an average dressage mane, you should estimate about 15 to 25 braids; for show jumping, often a little less. It's better to pack a spare – bands tend to break when things need to be done quickly.

What is better: braiding or sewing?

Braiding with mane bands is quick and ideal for day competitions. Sewn-in braids last longer and look particularly neat – perfect for multi-day events or demanding dressage tests.

Which color should I choose?

Traditionally, you choose the color of the mane, i.e., black, brown, or white. In show jumping classes, you can also braid in color, ideally matching the saddle pad color or your club colors.

How do I remove the mane bands gently?

With a small, sharp pair of scissors or a mane thinning knife, you can carefully cut the bands without catching any mane hairs. Never just pull them out – that breaks the hairs.
