Electric Fence Energizer: Secure Paddock, Relaxed Horse

Are you looking for an electric fence energizerthat reliably keeps your paddock electrified – whether it's a small turnout area or a spacious summer pasture? At kavalio, you'll find devices for every connection: mains operation (230 V), battery (9 V or 12 V), and solar. This way, your horse stays where it belongs – and you can head home with peace of mind.

Which electric fence energizer suits your paddock?

The right choice depends on three things: paddock size, available power source, and vegetation on the fence. A small, clean horse paddock near the stable entrance? A compact device with low joules is often sufficient. Are you traveling across the country with your reliable horse or do you have a large summer pasture without an outlet in sight? Then there's no getting around an electric fence energizer with batteryor solar module.

Rule of thumb: The longer the fence and the more vegetation, the more joules your device should deliver. For horses, it's always better to factor in some reserve. A well-guarding fence will ultimately save you a lot of stress, vet bills, and sleepless nights.

Mains, Battery, or Solar – the three types at a glance

  • Mains powered devices (230 V):strong, constant, low maintenance – ideal if you have electricity at the stable.
  • Battery powered devices (9 V / 12 V):flexible and mobile – perfect for remote paddocks or temporary pastures.
  • Solar powered devices:completely self-sufficient – a solar panel charges the battery, so you don't have to worry about anything.

In our range, you'll find models from KERBLas well as other premium brands in the field of pasture technology. We'll be happy to explain which device suits your situation directly in the chat – no sales talk, just honest advice from riders for riders.

Don't forget the accessories: they keep the power in the system

An electric fence energizer alone is useless if the rest isn't right. For a well-guarding system, you also need sturdy electric fence tape, proper gate handles & insulators, and a decent earth rod. The earthing is often underestimated – without it, even the strongest device will barely deliver any voltage to the fence.

Frequently asked questions about electric fence energizers

How many joules does an electric fence energizer need for horses?

For a normal horse paddock with a clean fence, 1–3 joules of output energy are usually sufficient. For long fences, high vegetation, or multiple horses, you should plan for 4 joules and more.

What's better – mains, battery, or solar?

If you have electricity at the paddock, a mains powered device is the most reliable solution. For remote pastures, a solar powered device is unbeatable because you don't have to worry about anything. Battery powered devices are a good compromise for mobile use.

How high should the voltage on the fence be?

For horses, at least 2,000 volts should be on the fence, preferably 3,000–5,000 volts. Check this regularly with a voltage tester – especially after thunderstorms or with heavy vegetation.

Why is my electric fence energizer no longer delivering power?

Most common causes: weak battery, poor earthing, damaged electric fence tape, or a short circuit due to tall grass. Go through the device, earthing, and fence completely – usually the culprit is quickly found.
