Headcollars and lead ropes for safe handling

Headcollars and lead ropes are indispensable for horse owners to lead horses to pasture or transport them from A to B. In our online shop, we offer an extensive selection of headcollars made from various materials from renowned manufacturers. We are happy to give you an insight into our product range here.

What is a horse headcollar?

A headcollar, in addition to reinsand bridle, serves to control the horse. Almost every horse owner must have a suitable headcollar on hand to hold, lead, or tie up the horse. It is important to accustom horses to a headcollar early on so that they can be led well later.

A headcollar consists of three components:

  • Headpiece
  • Cheekpieces
  • Noseband

Nylon vs. Leather: Different headcollars in our range

When you look at our offerings, you will notice that we sell both leather headcollarsand nylon headcollars. Both products have their advantages and disadvantages and should be chosen appropriately for the respective application.

Leather Headcollars

Leather headcollars look very high-quality at first glance and are also very robust and durable. They also adapt anatomically to the shape of the horse's head and are comfortable to wear. A leather headcollar ensures comfortable pressure distribution and thus also protects the nerves. You can buy leather headcollars from brands such as Schockemöhle Sports, Busse, or Waldhausenfrom us.

To offer an animal-friendly alternative, our manufacturer Kentucky Horsewearproduces headcollars from 100% synthetic leather. This artificial leather is in no way inferior to real leather. It does not absorb water, does not become brittle, and is very easy to care for.

Nylon Headcollars

Nylon headcollars are characterized by their high stability and durability. There are nylon headcollars available in our shop in a wide variety of designs and styles. The headcollars with plush trim from Kingslandare particularly comfortable to wear. Our manufacturers Cavallo, Equestrian Stockholm, or Eskadronalso offer a variety of different headcollar colors.

How do I find the right size for the horse headcollar?

A suitable horse headcollar should be neither too tight nor too loose on the animal's head. The most important criteria for size selection are:

  • Length of the headcollar

The noseband of the headcollar should not reach the nostrils so that it does not rub or pinch sensitive nerves. Ideally, it sits two finger-widths above the cheekbone.

  • Width of the headcollar

Make sure that about two to three fingers fit between the nose and the noseband. In addition, there should be enough space between the throatlatch of the headcollar and the lower jaw.

Sturdy lead ropes for careful and clear impulses

For leading with a headcollar, a lead rope must be attached to the headcollar. With this rope, you lead your horse as much as possible without restricting its freedom of movement. Lead ropes are also used for horses when they need to be tied up for a short time.

In our assortment, you will find different types of lead ropes:

  • Lead ropes and lunge lines
  • Tie ropes with panic or snap hooks
  • Braided ropes
  • Stallion chains

Many lead ropes are equipped with a so-called panic hook. This clasp, unlike a snap hook, can be easily opened even under strong tension. Lead ropes for horses are usually made either of nylon or synthetic leather, as is the case with our manufacturer Kentucky Horsewear.

Reliable fly protection against aerial pests

Horseflies, flies, and mosquitoes are annoying not only for humans but also for horses. With a fly mask, you can protect your horse from irritating and sometimes even health-threatening bites and stings. Fly protection consists of a transparent mesh, which is usually dark for better visibility.

When is a fly mask useful for a horse?

Fly masks are always useful for horses when they suffer from irritated or watery eyes. Often, conjunctivitis even develops due to attacks from the air. Pests can also transmit diseases, which can become a real danger, especially for horses with weakened immune systems.

What is important when I buy a fly mask?

The fly mask must sit very snugly on the horse's head, otherwise flies and other insects can simply fly underneath it. At the same time, the size must be chosen so that the fly protection does not rub. You should definitely make sure that the mask allows for clear vision.

Our selection of fly protection for horses

To reliably protect your horse from fly attacks on the eyes, we have created a selection of reliable fly protection.

  • Fly headcollarWith a fly headcollar, the fly protection is directly connected to the headcollar. It has integrated eye and ear protection.
  • Fly fringeThe fly fringe consists of fringes that hang in front of the horse's eyes. These are attached to a headband made of easy-care material, which is adjustable in length.
  • Nose netThe nose net serves to reduce symptoms of headshaking syndrome, sunburn in the nostril area, and general hypersensitivity to insects.
