1. "Horse Girls Never Have Time"
One of the prejudices we riders probably hear more often than any other. Of course, equestrian sports, especially when you own your own horse, are significantly more time-consuming than other sports. While the average German spends about three hours per week on sports, we horse girls can easily spend three hours a day at the stable. With horse care, riding lessons, and stable work, some days even take longer.
But one thing is certain: we are organizational talents. Regular appointments with the vet, farrier, and physiotherapist are easily kept. So you should always ask yourself whether a horse girl really has no time, or if she just prefers to spend it outdoors with her two- and four-legged friends instead of spending the day on the couch.
2. "Horse Girls Show Up Everywhere in Riding Gear"
After thorough research, we admit: It's true! It’s perfectly normal to do your weekly shopping after the stable in comfortable Breeches WOMEN OLIVA, after all, the designs and comfort of the current #EQUESTRIANFASHION beat classic sweatpants, which some people wear to the supermarket, by far. However, horse girls should make sure that boots and spurs are already properly stored in the locker at this point and no longer on their feet.
"For spontaneous dinner invitations, my friends and family are already used to me showing up at the restaurant even wearing breeches." For our employee Tina, breeches are already a fixed part of her everyday wardrobe.
3. "Riders Are Spoiled Divas"
One of the clichés about us riders that we can’t just dismiss as a joke. We often hear that horse girls drive to their favorite place in their Fiat 500 and do nothing there except gallop into the sunset. How we would love to spend our days like that, but unfortunately, that’s absolute #FAKENEWS. Equestrian sports consist of about 20% fun riding and time with friends; the other 80% is shoveling manure, sweeping the yard, organizing, and above all: responsibility. Riders care for an incredibly sensitive living being throughout its life. The well-being of the four-legged friend depends 100% on the decisions made by the horse owner, who ensures 24 hours a day that their horse lives a life that meets its needs.
4. "Riding Is Not a Real Sport"
"You’re just sitting on the horse, that’s super easy." A sentence that can only come from someone who has never had the luck to sit in the saddle.
Riding trains various regions of your body, from shoulders to back to arms and legs. Of course, the calorie burn during a Sunday walk in the walk gait is rather moderate at 200 kcal in 45 minutes, but show jumping and dressage riders burn up to 550 kcal during a training session. Not bad for just "sitting on a horse", right?
Typical, or not?
These were just a few of the clichés we horse girls have to face. But the time with our equine partner definitely outweighs the occasional comment and even a snippy remark about "typical horse girls". We gladly get our hands dirty and appreciate the unique bond between us and our favorite. So the next time you get a sideways glance for entering a restaurant in breeches, take it with humor – there are many of us out there. :-)
