The oldest and most well-known among them is certainly the "Jin Stirrup"; at least, it was through this company that I first noticed these feather-light eye-catchers. In the end, though, I bought a more affordable alternative.
Unfortunately, the low price showed quickly: the paint peeled off, and the tread wore out fast.
Kavalio has now given me the opportunity to test the stirrups from Flex-On.
Also an aluminum variant with many design options – not long ago, alongside the aluminum model, the "Green Composite" was introduced, featuring plastic elements made from renewable raw materials.
I tested this model. Besides their light weight, they also offer anatomical benefits: different levels of suspension hardness through "Shock Absorbers" are supposed to protect the joints.
I admit: I was totally impressed just by the look. Thank goodness I (still) have no problems with my joints or muscles.
Thanks to cross-training, hopefully, it will stay that way :p
Flex-On offers 2 different tread surfaces, each with the additional "Ultra-Grip" option. My test stirrups had the angled tread + "Ultra-Grip," which reminded me a bit of the spikes my grandma sometimes straps under her shoes in winter.
Anyone with boots that have thicker soles will probably feel just as comfortable with them as I do. Especially in the jumping saddle, I immediately felt and appreciated the stronger grip!
But the stirrup was also great in dressage training, especially during lateral movements or even just at the rising trot – I simply felt like I had more "grip."
I can well imagine that they significantly help prevent slipping or keeping the heel down because the angled tread already positions the foot much better.
For me, the test week is now over; the stirrups are going back to the kavalio team, and I will put together a pair in my desired color.
Since the Flex-On stirrups are not yet very well known with us, I think Kavalio’s test option is a really cool idea. You have one week to test the stirrups extensively before you have to decide. After that, you can simply send the stirrups back and get a full refund (minus a €9 usage fee). If you decide to keep a pair, the rental fee is credited back to you.
